Recent acquisition: Paul van der Steen

The Atlas Van Stolk has once again expanded its collection with works of a famous cartoonist. After having acquired works of Niek Otte, the Atlas has now come into the possession of more than 300 original and digital drawings by the artist Paul van der Steen. With this large addition of caricatures to its collection, the Atlas now possesses a fine overview of today's well-known people.

Paul van der Steen studied at the Art Academy Minerva in Groningen. He started his career as an illustrator by drawing for several children's magazines, such as Okkie and Taptoe. Later, he started working for the Parool newspaper, where he specialised in caricatures. He later expanded his work to several magazines such as VARAgids, Opzij and Wordt Vervolgd. Van der Steen exhibited in, among other places, Groningen, Amsterdam and Haarlem. The artist has maintained a close relationship with the Atlas Van Stolk for a long time. For instance, in 2007 he had his own exhibition Bekende Nederlanders, and he designed the poster of the exhibition Nederland fietst in 2010.
